What Exactly IS a Lung Detox & Why You Might Need One

If you have quit smoking recently, be it for the first or the twentieth time, you may have some idea by now how much rubbish this deadly habit has put into your body. If you are not so clear on the why’s and wherefores, let me list just a few out for you so that you understand why you need a lung detox.

Damaging factors in inhaled smoke

Chemicals. Every time you take a smoke-filled breath, you pump upwards of four-THOUSAND different chemicals into your body. FOUR THOUSAND! And many of these are damaging, poisonous, and downright scary.

Ammonia – used in toilet cleaner to KILL things

Acetone – the really strong smell in nail polish remover

Nicotine – the obvious one, but it is actually used as an insecticide at high doses

Carbon monoxide – a poison found in car exhaust fumes (and the stuff that kills you if you off yourself with your car’s exhaust)

Arsenic – a strong and common poison, used in rat bates

Hydrogen cyanide – used as a gas chamber poison by the Nazi’s in WWII

Benzene – a petrol additive

These and the other three thousand, nine hundred and ninety odd chemicals that you get with EVERY puff on a cigarette, get into your lungs very quickly. Some go on into your bloodstream, messing up other parts of your body, but a lot stay in your lungs, stuck there in this black muck called Tar. If it wasn’t for Tar, you would be able to clear these chemicals fairly quickly after you stop smoking Because of Tar however, dangerous, cancer causing chemicals can stay in your lungs for up to TEN years. Every hour that they stay in there, they have the potential to do you damage.

What YOU can do about it

The obvious first step is to quit and stay that way. Quitting is as easy as throwing away your last packet of cigarettes and not buying or asking others for more. It’s the staying quit that is the hard part. Nicotine is a chemically addictive substance, so a method to control the cravings is vitally important. What is often also overlooked is the psychological habit of smoking that also needs to be retrained. These factors are both effected by the amount of stress you feel in your life, your general feelings about yourself, your self-worth, and your life in general. It’s quite a bit to consider and to get right without guidance.

So once you are off the cancer sticks, you will be wanting to get all that nasty tar out of your lungs. You will generally work to repair the damage done over your smoking career. The bad news is some of that damage is not repairable with current technology. The good news is a considerable amount of it is! The sooner you get that tar out of your lungs, the sooner that damage stops, and your health starts to improve. This is where a good lung detox program comes in.

A good lung detox program uses vitamins, herbs, exercises and other possible treatment methods in a specific way to help remove tar and toxins much faster from your lungs than they would be if you went on with your normal routine (minus the smoking). The best lung detoxification programs also cover all facets of stress relief, immune system boosting, improving your mental routines, motivational techniques to keep you on the path to good health.
