What Is A Healthy Heart Rate?
Heart-rates are used to diagnose if you have a healthy heart. It is very important to monitor your heart-rate regularly to determine if there are abnormalities. The question is “what is a healthy heart-rate”? How can you know if your heart-rate is normal? Let us find out. In this article, we are going to use bmp or beats per minute.
According to health professionals, the ideal rate of the heart for a newborn baby is 120bmp to 160 bmp. For babies who are between 1-month to 12-months old, they should have a rate of 80bpm to 140bpm. For toddlers under 2 years old, the normal rate is 80bpm to 130bpm. For toddlers aged 2 to 6 years old, the healthy heart rate is between 75bpm to 120bpm. If your children are between 7 to 12 years old, they should have a heart rate of 75bpm to 100bpm. As for young adults, they need 60bpm to 100bpm heart rate. For athletes, the healthy heart rate is 40bpm to 60bpm. Any value that is not contained in the range signals an unhealthy heart rate.
How are you going to check the rate of your heart? There are several ways on how you can do this. Here are some of the most common ones.
Wrist (Pulse Rate) – If you place your fingers on your wrist, you will feel a pulsing sensation. Count every pulse beat for a minute. If you have time, you can do this several times in order to make sure you are getting a consistent count. If you do not have time, you can just count up to 30 seconds then multiply the result by two. That will also give you a rough estimate of your heart pulse. The artery present in your wrist is also known as the radial artery.
Neck – The artery present in your neck is the carotid artery. You can feel this artery by placing your fingers on the part of the neck close to the ears. Just be patient in looking for the pulsing sensation. Once you find it, you need to count for 30 seconds or 1 minute. Do this regularly to monitor your heart rate.
The two methods above are the two most common methods of getting the heart pulse or the pulse rate. It is important to know also that there are different major arteries in your body where you can count your pulse beat. For instance, you can find the brachial artery under your biceps. You can find your heart’s apex by placing your palm on your chest. You can find the temporal artery on your temple.
If you want to get the exact and accurate number of beats per minute your heart makes, you need a machine known as the electrocardiograph or ECG. This equipment is used for patients with serious heart condition. You may also purchase gadgets with heart rate counter. There are some smartphones and wristwatches today which have this feature. It is important that you monitor your heart to make sure you do not have any underlying heart problems.
