Body Detoxification Will Lead You to a Healthy Life

Body Detoxification Will Lead You to a Healthy Life

Body detoxification is nothing new, but it has only recently entered into the Western health and beauty community’s collective zeitgeist. It is controversial, to say the least, with as many snake oil salesmen and skeptics clashing and warring as any new health or beauty trend. However, detoxification is nothing new, and there is much legitimacy behind it, if one knows where to look and what to filter out. Detoxification is not a miracle cure for every ailment that one will encounter throughout their life-in fact, it is rarely a cure at all. Detoxification is, however, a preventative treatment that contributes to health preservation before health can be lost to begin with.

Body detoxification takes many different forms. Some ‘cleanse’ diets focus on detoxification; these are perhaps the most well-known and infamous for the health risks that surround them. To understand what body detoxification is, one must first understand what it is not:

1.) Body detoxification is not a miracle cure. ‘Toxins’ are not the cause of every ailment in the body’s repertoire of glitches, and getting rid of them will not add 70 years to your lifespan.

2.) Body detoxification should never be dangerous. Crash dieting, starvation and liquid diets should never play a role.

3.) Body detoxification is not new, nor unique, nor magical.

Body detoxification is nothing more than the support of the body in its natural process of eliminating toxins. ‘Toxins’ may include everything from environmental free radicals to an excess of an important nutrient, like potassium. The body is meant to maintain a certain equilibrium, called ‘homeostasis’. It does this through the use of the kidneys, liver, spleen and other organs, converting unnecessary chemicals to waste and eliminating them.

By helping the body do what it does better, the various means and programs for detoxification can lead to a better sense of general health and reduced propensity towards a variety of ailments. This is why it is not a miracle cure, but rather a catch-all beneficial procedure. It cannot correct a major imbalance or the intrusion of a foreign force, such as a viral or bacterial infection, but it can support the immune system in doing what it already does. It cannot repair the body-but it will make the body work better. This is the true benefit to detoxification.

Detoxification can be a great boon to those that treat it with respect for what it is. It can and almost certainly will lead to a greater sense of health and healthier body, but as with all things, what is most important is keeping things in perspective.
